How to perform sampling of blood and processing of serum

In this video you will learn how to perform sampling of blood and processing of serum. We have a panel of biomarkers related to different organs effected by various myopathies (PD, CMS and HSMI). We can also receive plasma.

Step by step

  1. Assembly the equipment as shown in the video.
  2. Aim the needle behind the caudal fin to aim for (Vena caudalis) and (Aorta caudalis) and stop when you hit the bone.
  3. Drag the handle on the Monovette back to create vacuum.
  4. Move the needle a bit back and forward and when you see blood in the Monovett, wait until it`s full.
  5. Remove the needle from the fish, put on the cap on the needle and invert the monovette x 3
  6. Before spinning the blood let the sample sit in upright position for a min of 20 min and spin within 2 hours post taking the sample
  7. Place Monovette in centrifuge and spin for 10 minutes at 6000rpm.
  8. Label tubes with sample and pen number.
  9. Carefully remove supernatants from blood tube with a pipette or carefully tilt the tube and allow the serum to enter the plastic tube.
  10. Make sure you label the samples sufficient and store the serum as required in fridge. Before sending the samples add a freezing pack to keep the samples cold during transport.
